Catholic Chaplains Monument - Chaplains Hill, Arlington National Cemetery - Medal of Honor

Captain Joseph T. O'Callahan Joseph Timothy O'Callahan was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on 14 May 1905. He joined the Jesuit Order of the Roman Catholic Church in 1922, after graduation from preparatory school, and subsequently received degrees from several institutions of higher learning. He was ordained in 1934, and was a Professor of Mathematics, Philosophy and Physics at Boston College in 1929-37, Professor of Philosophy at the Jesuit Seminary of Weston College in 1937-38 and Director of the Mathematics Department at Holy Cross College, Worcester, MA. Father O'Callahan was commissioned as a Lieutenant (Junior Grade) in the Naval Reserve Chaplain Corps in August 1940. He was assigned to the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida, in 1940-42, to the aircraft carrier Ranger in 1942-44 and to the Naval Air Stations at Alameda, California, and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, into early 1945. Lieutenant Commander O'Callahan joined the the aircraft carri

Visitors ask...Sunday Mass in Annapolis or at the Naval Academy

Annapolis, Maryland is a favorite site for visitors to Maryland. First, the city is the State capitol with all the attendant State buildings including the Governor's Mansion and historic locales (the State House). Second, it is located on the beautiful Severn River with its historic "city dock." Finally, it is the home of the United States Naval Academy which graduates Naval and Marine Corps officers for the U.S. military. Visitors often search for "Mass schedule, Naval Academy." That is a problem in a way. First, the Chaplains at the Academy minister to over 4,000 men and women of all Faiths and they take first precedence for liturgies. Second, it is a military installation and under the Archdiocese of the United States Military Services. So, while visits are encouraged, the Liturgical Schedule is very much for "in house" purposes unless one has been invited to a specific event. Historic Annapolis has a gorgeous Redemptorist Church, St. Ma

YouTube: Traditional Catholic Monks of Papa Stronsay, Scotland (Transalpine Redemptorists)

This YouTube is from a UK TV documentary filmed in 2004. The Monks could use funds to help build the Golgotha Monastery. Here is a link to the Papa Stronsay website. Please give if you can !

Visitors ask...What is the orange and white icon doing in the upper right corner of this blog's URL?

In the upper pane of my internet browser, there is a URL (or "uniform resource locator") designation box telling the browser the address to this blog. It starts with http//: (which is shorthand for "hypertext transfer protocol"). It then gives the Blogger address: tlm-md.blogspot.com . To the right of the address in the URL pane is an orange and white icon. If you click on that icon, you can "subscribe" to the "feed" from that blog . In other words, you can have the "content" go to a reader which you can screen in many ways at your choosing. In this way, somebody can cover up to a few dozen blogs each day to see what they have posted in almost "real time." News services, ESPN and so on all have these "feeds." Here is an explanation of RSS readers (the output from this blog is also in Atom besides RSS). This gives the top ten "Windows based" RSS Feed Readers available . There are many more, but th

Visitors ask...MP3 Chants (Tantum Ergo, Regina Caeli, etc.)

This is for someone searching for "downloadable MP3 chants." I found it on the ChristusRex website . There are four versions of Tantum Ergo available. I cannot attest to their clarity or sound character. The one I listened to was not too bad.
