Transalpine Redemptorists at home: May God bless and keep our seminarians!

I just received this link as an email from one of my good friends, J. FIVE seminarians left the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer (F.SS.R.) on Papa Stronsay, Orkney, Scotland on August 4th in order to attend the Seminary of the Society of Saint Peter's (F.S.S.P.) in Denton, NE. The blog site indicates that the following Brothers: Br. Magdala Maria, F.SS.R., Br. Jean Marie, F.SS.R., Br. Yousef Marie, F.SS.R., Br. Martin Mary, F.SS.R., Br. Ivan Maria, F.SS.R... are very happy to announce that at the end of August they will be received by the Society of Saint Peter's seminary, in Denton, Nebraska. May God bless these young men on their journey to the priesthood ! Laus Deo!

NCR Cafe.org: Remembering Paul VI, the superhuman pope

John L. Allen, Jr. in his weekly column "All Things Catholic" does a wonderful essay on Pope Paul VI . Here is a snippet from his column: "Bit by bit," Benedict said, "as our view of the past expands and our understanding deepens, the merit of Paul VI in presiding over the council, leading it happily to its conclusion, and then governing the turbulent post-conciliar phase, appears ever greater -- indeed, I would say, almost superhuman." Thus RAI, the Italian national TV network, may have its title: Paolo VI: Il papa sovrumano ("Paul VI, The Superhuman Pope.") The term seems a fitting act of justice on behalf of Paul VI, who began to be enveloped in neglect almost from the moment of his death. Consider that when John Paul II died, The New York Times devoted a special section to the pope, including an obituary of some 13,500 words; when Paul VI died, his passing merited a lone obit of scarcely more than 1,000 words, which began by characteri

Telegraph.co.UK: The new English Mass is nearly here

Damian Thompson on his blog, "Holy Smoke," carried by the Telegraph.co.UK, has posted some of the new English changes in the Ordinary that have received the recognitio of the Vatican . He admits that the entire text is already on the USCCB website, but discloses some of the changes to his British readers. I particularly like his summation: Cheer up, guys: if you think the liturgical conservatives have spoiled the ordinary form of the Mass, don't forget that you now have the option of the extraordinary form, where problems of translation don't arise. Here is the entire article .
